Announcements: CfS Fairness in International Economic Adjudication; CfParticipants Geneva Trade Week’s Curated Conversations; CfP Rules-Based International Order in Latin America & the Caribbean; The Normative Dimension of EU Communication Conference; RRU International Law Week

1. Call for Submissions: Fairness in International Economic Adjudication – Procedure, Substance, and Institutional Design. Submissions are invited for the Doctoral and Early-Career Scholars Colloquium “Fairness in International Economic Adjudication: Procedure, Substance, and Institutional Design”, to be held on 10 December 2026 at the University of Geneva. The colloquium will explore competing conceptions of fairness in the interpretation, application, and institutional development of international economic law. Papers are welcomed on topics including international investment law and arbitration, WTO law and dispute settlement, international taxation, economic sanctions, sustainable development, and related areas of international economic governance. The colloquium is convened by Vasiliki Dritsa, PhD Candidate and Teaching Assistant in International Law at the University of Geneva, with the support of the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) and the Conférence universitaire de Suisse occidentale (CUSO). Submission deadline: 30 September 2026. Selected participants will be notified by 8 October 2026. A limited number of travel and accommodation grants will be available in accordance with SNSF and CUSO funding regulations.

2. Call for Participants – Geneva Trade Week’s Curated Conversations. On 16 September 2026, a Curated Conversation on “The Role of Secretariats in IOs’ Activities” will take place at the WTO within the framework of the Public Forum – Geneva Trade Week. Participants from various backgrounds (former Secretariat members, government officials, academics, students, etc.) are sought to join this curated conversation. The problem they aim to address is the ongoing challenges that IOs’ secretariats face, including funding problems, the curtailing of their responsibilities, and increasing discredit. The idea is to brainstorm to reassert the value of IO secretariats by providing concrete examples of situations when their action has proven essential for members. There is also a need to discuss what could be improved. At the end of the Curated Conversation Session, under the Chatham House Rule, the team will draft a summary that captures key ideas, which will then be shared online. 3. Call for Papers: Old Doctrines, New Battles – The Future of the Rules-Based International Order in Latin America and the Caribbean. Latin America and the Caribbean are once again at the centre of recent debates. Völkerrechtsblog invites scholars and practitioners to reflect on the themes of intervention and influence, on the potential of international law to safeguard human rights, democracy, and self-determination, on the ongoing contestation of public international law’s core principles, and on the increasing reliance on emergency powers and their implications for democratic governance. They particularly welcome contributions that connect these regional developments to broader debates on: sovereignty; intervention; and, the future of the international legal order. Contributions may be submitted in English or Spanish. Deadline: 7 September 2026. More information here. 

4. The Normative Dimension of EU Communication Conference. The final conference of the Jean Monnet Chair Verba volant, sed imperant? The Legal Challenges of EU Communication is entitled “The Normative Dimension of EU Communication” and will take place on 2 October 2026 at the University of Ferrara (and online). Start time is 9am. It will bring together scholars and will explore whether, and under what conditions, communicative acts of EU institutions and political actors may acquire legal relevance within the EU legal order. The Conference is under accreditation at the Ferrara Bar Association the purposes of the Continuing Legal Education Programme. 5. RRU International Law Week 2026. The RRU Centre for International Law, Rashtriya Raksha University – an Institution of National Importance, India – is inviting national and international teams from all United Nations regions to participate in International Law Week 2026, scheduled from 20 November – 5 December 2026. The International Law Week comprises the Third RRU International Moot Court Competition and the First RRU Lavad International Law Academy on International Law, Global Peace and Security. The registration fee is waived to recognise merit an  promote international law studies and research. Priority will be given to teams participating in both events. Scholarships of up to USD 1,000 each will be awarded to the top 12 international teams to promote representation across all UN regions.
