1. Postdoctoral Fellow Vacancy: Chinese University of Hong Kong. CUHK LAW is seeking one outstanding Postdoctoral Fellow with a strong interest and expertise in the legal and political history of war crimes and crimes against humanity, ideally with a particular emphasis upon the Sri Lankan Civil War. Given the nature of the research to be conducted, a background in both history and law will be advantageous. Under the direction of Professor Alex Green, and in collaboration with the Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam, the work shall address the ongoing political and legal discourses surrounding the development of an independent Tamil State within the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka. The project aims to provide an objective academic assessment of the legal challenges facing the creation of such a new State. Full details here.

 
2. Call for Engaged Listeners: Human Rights Rising Under Distress – The African Court at 20. To mark the 20th anniversary of the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights, the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law and Wits University are convening a one-day workshop in Heidelberg on 14 October 2026. The workshop will explore the paradox of two simultaneous developments in human rights law. On the one hand, the African Court and other human rights courts have handed down judgments expanding the geographic, temporal, and social scope of human rights. On the other hand, the African Court and other human rights institutions are increasingly under distress by member states and social actors. The program is available here. A limited number of places are available for engaged listeners, who will participate in the workshop as audience members. The organisers invite all those interested in human rights, African constitutional and international legal developments, and African–European relations. 3. Call for Applications: 6th Kırımlı Dr. Aziz Bey International Humanitarian Law Competition & Advanced School. This advanced school and competition will take place between 30 October – 4 November 2026 in Heybeliada, İstanbul, Türkiye. The Competition & the Advanced School are organized by the Istanbul Center for International Law (ICIL) and Turkish Red Crescent (Türk Kızılay), with the contribution of the ICRC. The competition’s main theme for this edition will be accountability under IHL. The early bird application deadline is 1 September 2026, while the deadline for applications is 1 October 2026. 4. Call for Papers: Cambridge Forum on Corporate Climate Governance. The Cambridge Forum on Corporate Climate Governance (Cambridge University Press) is inviting submissions for an upcoming Themed Issue: “Operationalising Corporate Climate Governance and Accountability for Just Transition Across Legal Regimes.” This issue explores how corporate actions addressing climate change contribute to a sustainable future, focusing on decision-making processes and legal, regulatory, and financial frameworks. They welcome submissions from academics, practitioners, and policymakers on corporate accountability, just transition, and cross-border legal regimes. Articles are published Gold Open Access and undergo rigorous double-anonymous peer review. The submission deadline is 1 December 2026. Papers will be published on an ongoing basis as soon as they are ready, with publication expected to begin on 30 June 2027. For full details, see here. 5. Call for Abstracts: Volume 30 of the Max Planck Yearbook of United Nations Law. The Max Planck Yearbook of United Nations Law (UNYB) is seeking contributions for its forthcoming Volume 30, with a special forum section on ‘The Wider United Nations System: Subsidiary Organs, Specialised Agencies, and Related Organisations at a Time of Strain’. As the UNYB marks its 30th anniversary, the forthcoming volume will feature a special thematic forum examining a central yet relatively under-explored dimension of international law in practice: the structure, functioning, and evolution of the diverse institutions and entities that comprise the wider UN system, including subsidiary organs, specialised agencies, related organisations, and other components of the broader UN-centred multilateral framework. In addition to featuring manuscripts pertaining to the thematic scope of this volume, they will also be featuring selected articles that fall within the overall editorial line of the Yearbook (i.e. ‘The Law and Practice of the United Nations’ and ‘Legal Issues Related to the Goals of the United Nations’). The deadline for receipt of abstract proposals is 28 August 2026, with full drafts of selected manuscripts by 15 November 2026.
