About/Bio

André de Hoogh is a Senior Lecturer in International Law in the Faculty of Law of the University of Groningen. He publishes on a wide variety of topics, which have included the powers of the Security Council, the Tadić case and attribution of conduct in the law of State responsibility, legislative powers of UN peacekeeping operations, the 2003 war against Iraq, the Bush doctrine of pre-emptive self-defence, non-proliferation of nuclear weapons, jurisdiction of States, and treaty interpretation. Abel S. Knottnerus is a PhD Researcher at the Legal Theory Department of the University of Groningen. He is Abel Knottnerus currently working on his dissertation “the Contested Legitimacy of the International Criminal Court”, in which he explores the ongoing legitimation process of the ICC. His research interests are in the fields of International Relations, International Legal Theory and International Criminal Law. In recent and forthcoming publications he focusses on the concepts of social legitimacy and legal ambiguity, the relationship between the Security Council and the ICC as well as on the growing rift between African States and the ICC.
