1. The London Conference on International Law, 3-4 October 2019 at the Barbican, London. What is the use of international law and how do we engage with it? The London Conference on International Law will bring together international law academics, judges, practitioners, representatives of civil society, business-leaders, and other stakeholders to see how States and all other actors engage with international law. 2. Call for Papers – Bernard and Audre Rapoport Center for Human Rights and Justice. The Bernard and Audre Rapoport Center for Human Rights and Justice at The University of Texas at Austin, School of Law invites submissions for an interdisciplinary conference on the theme of “Prison Abolition, Human Rights, and Penal Reform: From the Local to the Global,” to be held 26 – 28 September 2019. 3. Call for Papers: International Investments and Ecological Sustainability. The International Investments in Latin America Network and the School of Policy and Government of the Universidad Nacional de San Martín, with the support of the University of Dundee and the Transnational Institute, are organizing a workshop on International Investments and Ecological Sustainability on the 25 – 26 July 2019 at the Universidad Nacional de San Martín, Argentina. We call on scholars from across social sciences to submit abstracts by 31 May 2019. We particularly encourage submissions from the perspective of low and middle-income countries, noting that funding might be available to support their participation. Further information here.
 
4. Stockton Center for International Law Visiting Research Scholar Program. The Stockton Center for International Law is now accepting applications for its Visiting Research Scholar Program. An integral part of the U.S. Naval War College, the Stockton Center is an internationally recognized research institute focusing on the most challenging questions of international law pertaining to the use of force, the law of armed conflict, military operations, the law of the sea, and maritime security. Visiting Research Scholars typically spend two to three months at the Center, but shorter and longer stays are possible. Additional details and the application requirements are available here.
 
5. Call for Applications – Erik Castrén Institute of International Law and Human Right, Finland, Helsinki Summer Seminar. The Eric Castrén Institute of International Law and Human Rights invites you to the 31th Summer Seminar on International Law – ‘International Environmental Law: Process as decline’. The seminar will take place 26 – 30 August 2019 at the University of Helsinki. The Summer Seminar applies a critical perspective to fundamental questions such as: Can the current preferred modus operandi of international environmental law respond effectively to the massive environmental and human health crises of the present and future? The seminar encourages international environmental law students, scholars and professionals to unlearn pragmatic, instrumentalist or functionalist ways of doing international environmental law. 6. Critical Approaches to International Law Symposium. This Symposium will take place at Griffith College Dublin, Faculty of Law from 1 – 4 August, 2019. The deadline for registration has been extended, and there are 10 scholarships for scholars from the Global South available. For further information, see here. 

7. Law & Practice of International Courts and Tribunals Rosalyn Higgins Prize. The Law & Practice of International Courts and Tribunals now invites submissions for the Rosalyn Higgins Prize. This Prize is an annual prize which awards EUR 1.000 of Brill book vouchers and a LPICT subscription to the author of the best article on the law and practice of the International Court of Justice, either solely focusing on the ICJ or with the ICJ as one of the dispute settlement mechanisms under consideration. The winning article will also be published in LPICT and made freely available online to maximize its dissemination. Competition for the Prize is open to all. Submissions should be between 6.500 and 8.000 words in length, not yet published or under review elsewhere. Other submission requirements are the same as for regular LPICT submissions. The deadline for submissions is 31 August 2019. All papers for consideration of the 2019 prize should be sent directly to Pierre Bodeau-Livinec (bodeaulivinec {at} gmail(.)com ) and Freya Baetens (freya.baetens {at} jus.uio(.)no), LPICT Co-Editors-in-Chief. The winner(s) will be announced in September 2019.
 
8. The Law of Immunities of International Organisations after Jam v IFC. Grotius Chambers brings together a panel of four experts to discuss the implications of the landmark US Supreme Court decision in Jam v IFC, No. 17–1011 (27 February 2019) on the law of the immunities of international organisations. The discussion will be wide ranging and cover different perspectives. Speakers will address issues including but not limited to the scope of international institutional immunities following the decision in Jam in the United States; how may Jam impact the international law understanding of institutional immunities; what steps international organisations may take to limit exposure to domestic proceedings; and crucially, what implications does (if any) does the decision in Jam have for enhancing access to justice for the victims of international institutional conduct. The event takes place on 29 May 2019 from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm at The Humanities Hub, Fluwelen Burgwal 58  2511 CJ Den Haag. For more information and to register, see here.
